San Antonio Missions News Release

The Missions ended their eight-game homestand Tuesday night with a disappointing 6-2 loss to the Hooks.

San Antonio opened scoring in the bottom of the second, taking a 2-0 lead on a two-RBI triple by catcher Eddy Rodriguez. It was the first three-bagger in affiliated baseball for Rodriguez since 2008, when he was a member of the High-A Sarasota Reds (Cincinnati).

Unfortunately for the Wolff crowd of 2,561, the two-run lead did not last long as the Hooks answered with three of their own in the top of third off Missions' starter Donn Roach. All three runs came on one play. With runners on the corners and one out, Jonathan Singleton lined a ball into the right-field corner. Both runners scored on the hit, but Cory Spangenberg's relay throw to get Singleton at third sailed wide, allowing the Hooks to take a 3-2 lead.

Corpus Christi got an Enrique Hernandez solo homer in the fourth and an RBI single by rehabbing Justin Maxwell in the fifth to open up a 5-2 lead.

Roach (4-6) allowed all five of the runs on a career-high, tying 10 hits. It was the sixth time the right-hander has allowed 10 hits in a game and the fourth time this season.

Right fielder Domingo Santana capped scoring with a solo homer in the top of the eighth off reliever Josh Geer.

Mike Foltynewicz (2-0) earned the win for the Hooks after allowing two runs on five hits in five innings on the hill. David Martinez (1st save)finished off the Corpus Christi victory with four scoreless innings of two-hit ball.

In the loss, Reymond Fuentes had another terrific game for the Missions, finishing 3-for-4 to extend his TL-leading on-base streak to 33 games. It was his second straight three-hit game.

San Antonio (34-29) drops to 4.5 games behind first-place Corpus Christi (39-25) with just six left in the first half. The Missions open a season-long, 12-game road trip Wednesday night at Citibank Ballpark against the Midland RockHounds. First pitch is slated for 6:30 PM. Left-hander Jose De Paula (4-5, 3.49) will get the ball for the Missions, while the RockHounds will counter with fellow southpaw Carlos Hernandez (2-5, 3.59).

Notes: Missions' first baseman Johan Limonta finished 0-for-3, but drew a walk in the second to extend his home on-base streak to 17 games.
