Clinton LumberKings News Release

Clinton, Iowa - The opportunity was right there for the LumberKings to win the series against the Peoria Chiefs on Thursday night, but they'll have to wait until Friday night for another try at it.

Down 4-3 in the bottom of the ninth inning, the LumberKings (13-27) loaded the bases against Peoria closer Jeff Lorick. Steve Baron reached on the second error of the night by Peoria's third baseman Anthony Giansanti to lead off the frame. Dan Paolini stuck out looking and Mario Yepez singled to right center to put runners at the corners with one out. Jabari Blash worked the count full before looking at a fastball for a called third strike for the second out. Following a walk by Mike Dowd, Dillon Hazlett came to the plate with the bases loaded and two away. After working the count full, Hazlett hit a soft fly that was tracked down by left fielder Oliver Zapata to end the game.

PJ Francescon started for the Chiefs (19-22) and worked six impressive innings as he limited Clinton to one unearned run on two hits. Francescon picked up his fifth win against just one loss. Trevor Miller started for Clinton and worked 4 2/3 innings. The right-hander got saddled with his third loss of the year after allowing four runs on six hits.

Clinton got on the board in the first inning but quickly fell behind as Peoria got one in the third and three more in the fifth inning. Clinton came back with two in the seventh on an RBI groundout by Dowd and a run-scoring base hit by Hazlett.

Ben Cornwell and David Colvin, who appeared in his first game with Clinton, combined to throw 4 1/3 scoreless innings in relief.

The two teams meet Friday night at Ashford University Field for the rubber match in the three-game series. A pair of right-hander's take the hill as Ambioris Hidalgo (1-5, 5.40) gets the nod for Clinton and Jose Rosario (3-3, 4.50) starts for Peoria. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM.
