Koch Does It Again: Snappers Win 7-3

Beloit, WI- The Snappers won their sixth consecutive game, keeping them on top of the Midwest League Western Division. The Beloit Snappers continued their hot streak against the Quad Cities River Bandits on Thursday afternoon by taking game two, 7-3 in front of 1,202 fans at Pohlman Field.

The Snappers struck hard and fast with a leadoff home run by Wang-Wei Lin to start the bottom of the first inning, giving the Snappers an early 1-0 lead.

Quad Cities rallied back quick with a leadoff double by Colin Walsh to start the top of the second. Then, Roberto Reyes singled, scoring Walsh tying up the ball game 1-1.

Beloit had a three-run bottom of the second with a three-run homer by Matt Koch. His second homer of the season, and second in two days. Koch drove in Drew Leachman who walked and Jhon Goncalves who singled.

Quad Cities started the top of the third with a leadoff walk from Casey Rasmus followed by a base hit by Matt Williams. Tyler Rahmatulla then singled scoring Rasmus tacking on another run, making it 4-2 Beloit.

Beloit kept the momentum going adding two more runs in the bottom of the fourth with another homer, this time from Jhon Goncalves. Koch doubled to follow the homer, then Kyle Knudson singled scoring Koch, putting the Snappers up 6-2. Things at the plate got even better, when the Snappers added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth when Adam Bryant doubled, followed by a single from Miguel Sano, scoring Bryant, bringing the score to 7-2.

Quad Cities picked up one more run in the top of the seventh with a solo homer by Luis Mateo. The River Bandits weren't able to rally back as they fell 7-3.

On the mound today, Matt Summers picked up his fourth win going six innings, allowing four hits and two earned runs, while striking out three. Corey Williams came in to relieve Summers in the top of the seventh, a one run, a solo homer. Williams went two innings, allowing three hits and one run. A.J. Achter came in for the top of the ninth and had a quick three outs.

The Snappers finish off the series with the Quad Cities River Bandits Friday night at the 6:30 PM. Before they hit the road for Burlington. The Midwest League Western Division leading Snappers return to action Friday when they look to expand on their league best home record of 16-6 behind Matt Tomshaw.
