Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
FORT MYERS, Fla. - A lengthy rain delay could not help the Miracle offense, as they fell to the Clearwater Threshers, 2-0, in the rubber game of the series on Sunday afternoon at Hammond Stadium.
The game, which lasted two-hours and 12 minutes, was delayed for two-hours and 16 minutes in the top of the seventh inning.
Clearwater scored the only two runs of the game on one play in the third inning. Daniel Brito lined an RBI triple over the head of right fielder Alex Kirilloff and then scored after the relay throw went into the Miracle dugout.
Griffin Jax (3-2) went six innings for the 11th time in 13 outings, but suffered the hard-luck loss. He was charged with one earned run on five hits and struck out four.
Baily Falter (8-4) went six scoreless innings for Clearwater. He allowed five hits, walked one, and struck out six. Trevor Bettancourt (two innings) and Addison Russ (one) completed the second straight shut out for Clearwater. Russ earned his 12th save.
Neither team had a hit with runners in scoring position. Kirilloff went 3-for-4 to extend his on-base streak to 31 games. Aaron Whitefield tallied two hits for the Miracle, including a double.
The Miracle remain 0.5 behind Charlotte in the Second Half South Division standings. The Stone Crabs fell in 11 innings to Palm Beach, 11-8.
Fort Myers has the day off Monday before embarking on their final road trip of the regular season to Palm Beach and St. Lucie. First pitch on Tuesday against the Cardinals from Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium is 6:30 p.m. Right-hander Clark Beeker is scheduled to pitch for Fort Myers.
