Mets Win Series Finale over Blue Jays, 5-3

DUNEDIN, Fla. - The St. Lucie Mets won their rubber game over the Dunedin Blue Jays 5-3 on Sunday at Dunedin Stadium.

David Wright and Jay Bruce continued their rehab assignments with productive days. Wright went 2 for 3 with a pair of singles and a run scored. He played five innings at third base.

Jay Bruce went 2 for 5 with two singles and played the entire games as the DH.

Gene Cone broke a 2-2 tie with a two-out, two-run double in the sixth inning. Quinn Brodey added a RBI single in the seventh to put the Mets up 5-2.

Mets starter Michael Gibbons improved to 3-1 in August. He tossed another quality start, holding Dunedin to two runs over six strong innings. Gibbons scattered five hits, did not walk a batter and struck out four.

Carlos Hernandez bridged the gap to the ninth with solid work in the seventh and eighth innings.

Adam Atkins struck out two in a perfect ninth for his fourth save.

Desmond Lindsay went 2 for 4 with a walk and two runs scored. He hit a triple on the first pitch of the game.

Cone drove in three runs.

Jeremy Vasquez went 1 for 4 with a double and a walk.

Blake Tiberi was 2 for 4 with a double. His single in the sixth started the winning rally.

The Mets (24-31, 51-71) are off on Monday. They return to the diamond on Tuesday to start their final home stand of the season. First pitch on Tuesday against the Tampa Tarpons is 6:30 p.m.
