FORT MYERS, FL (July 29, 2005) - The talent of the Fort Myers Miracle continues to impress the Twins organization as the ninth Miracle player was promoted to Double-A this season. Shortstop JR Taylor was called up on Friday and the Miracle will receive infielder Luke Hughes from Single-A Beloit.
The 22-year-old Taylor was hitting .256-0-23 in 73 games. In 262 at bats he struck out just 34 times while walking 28 times. He doubled 10 times and swiped 10 bags. The switch hitter was a 24th round pick of the Twins in 2000. Taylor committed just 11 errors while playing shortstop.
The 20-year-old Hughes was hitting .257-7-42 in 72 games. In 292 at bats he had 14 doubles and 21 walks while striking out 63 times. The right-hand hitter was a non-drafted free agent in 2002. Hughes committed just 10 errors while playing second base. He was born and raised in Perth, Australia.
The Miracle currently have 24 players on the roster, out of a maximum 25, 12 pitchers and 12 position players.
