Vero Beach Devil Rays News Release
Jamie Hoffman drew a bases loaded walk with one out in the bottom of the ninth to give the Vero Beach Dodgers a 5-4 win over the Lakeland Tigers Friday night at Holman Stadium. The Tigers had tied it in the top of the ninth, setting up the exciting finish. Jimmy Rohan went 2-3 with 2 RBI for the Dodgers and Mark Alexander recorded the win to improve to 4-1. The series continues Saturday night at 7:00 PM for College Rivalry Night at Holman Stadium.
In the bottom of the ninth, Anthony Raglani was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. He was forced out on a bunt try from A.J. Ellis, but Xavier Paul blooped a single to center. Jimmy Rohan was intentionally walked to load the bases and Hoffman walked on four pitches to win it for Vero Beach.
The Dodgers thought they'd won it in the seventh. Raglani led off that frame with a double and scored on Paul's triple. That knocked starter Preston Larrison out of the game. Rohan greeted reliever Eulogio de la Cruz with a single to score Paul, making it 4-2 Dodgers.
However, the Tigers tied it in the top of the ninth. Lakeland strung together four straight singles against closer Mark Alexander (4-2), to score twice. However, Alexander came back to strike out two of the next four batters (including one intentional walk) to keep it tied.
The Dodgers were the first on the board when Raglani came home on Rohan's first hit of the night. Lakeland scored twice in the top of the third to take their only lead of the game, 2-1, but Vero answered in the bottom of the inning. Hoffman led off with a double, advaned to third on a sacrifice and scored on a Matt Kemp ground out.
