September 2, 2006 - Florida State League (FSL1)
Vero Beach Devil Rays News Release

(Vero Beach, FL) - The St. Lucie Mets finished the season 10-0 at home against the Vero Beach Dodgers thanks to an 8-5 win at Tradition Field Saturday night. Seventeen year-old Deolis Geurra earned his first Florida State League win with five solid innings for the Mets. The series - and season - ends Sunday at Holman Stadium with a doubleheader scheduled at 3:00 PM. "Thirsty Thursday" prices will be honored at the concession stand and the Dodgers Lunch Cooler giveaway that was rained out from Wednesday will also be made up Sunday. The Mets slipped two runs past the Dodgers in the second inning to take an early lead on Mike Megrew (2-3). Jesus Flores doubled and went to third before Jamar Hill grounded a ball to third with the infield playing in. The throw beat him, but the ball was dropped to give the Mets their first run. Hill later came home on a sacrifice fly. The Dodgers would come back to tie it. Drew Locke led off the fourth inning with the second of his three hits and eventually scored on a grounder by Gabriel Gutierrez. The tying run scored in the fifth when Xavier Paul reached on an infield hit and later came home on a wild pitch. St. Lucie grabbed the lead right back in the bottom of the fifth on Caleb Stewart's solo home run. The Mets added another run when Mike Carp walked and Hill singled him home with two outs for a 4-2 lead. Carp struck again the seventh with a two-run homer, his 16th of the year. The two RBIs gave him 86 on the season, good for third in the FSL. The Dodgers then surrendered two more runs in the eighth when Jose Coronado tripled in Fernando Martinez and scored on Stewart's double. David Nicholson provided a late spark for the Dodgers when he knocked his first home run of the season with two outs in the ninth inning. It was a two-run shot that followed D. J. Jackson's infield single.
