Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
FORT MYERS, FL (September 2, 2006) - Miracle Baseball had all the right ingredients to break their all-time attendance mark in 2006. They had a great team on the field, some of the best promotions in all of Minor League Baseball and for the most part Mother Nature was cooperative. Put it all together and the Miracle went over the top this season drawing 116,397, a new single season mark.
The previous all-time high for attendance was set in 2000 when the Miracle drew 116,041 and won the second half division title, a feat the Miracle are trying to equal this season. The Miracle finished with the third highest overall and average attendance in the Florida State League this season, averaging nearly 1,800 fans during 2006.
"We had a championship caliber team on and off the field this season with our tremendous record and the unbelievable entertainment we gave our fans," said Miracle General Manager Steve Gliner. "It just goes to show you baseball can work in this area and it's because of the loyalty and support of the great community in Southwest Florida. Without them none of this would be possible and I never get tired of saying this, but I want to thank them for making my job a lot of fun."
The Miracle have been a model franchise in the Florida State League with family, fun entertainment and have been at the top of the FSL in attendance since 1992. The Miracle have drawn 1,514,405 in its first 15 seasons. During their 15 seasons the Miracle have drawn over 100,000 fans more than half the time, this season being the eighth time the 100K mark has been surpassed.
The Miracle have gained national attention for many promotions throughout the years and over half of the current Minnesota Twins players on the 25-man roster donned Miracle jerseys, including Matt Garza and recently promoted Alexi Casilla who both began 2006 with the Miracle.
