5,906 First Pitches

September 2, 2006 - Florida State League (FSL1)
Brevard County Manatees News Release

The Brevard County Manatees fans threw 5,906 Honorary First Pitches tonight before tonight's rainout. The staff opened Space Coast Stadium at 6:00 am and began throwing first pitches under stadium lights at 6:11 am. Just before 5:00 pm today severe thunderstorms moved into the area and stopped the first pitch ceremony at the 5,906 mark. After a rain delay and field flooding the umpires cancelled both games of tonight's DH. One of the games will be dropped from the schedule, the other will be made up as part of a DH beginning at noon tomorrow. Gates will open at 11:00 am.

The previous record of honorary first pitches was 5,127 which was set by the Madison (WI) Mallards set three weeks ago.

Every Sunday is McDonald's Youth Sports Sunday...fans presenting church bulletins or saying the phrase that pays, "McDonald's...I'm Lovin' It," will receive five General Admission Tickets for only $5, courtesy of McDonald's Restaurants of Brevard County. All fans exiting the ballpark after game #2 will receive a coupon for a free food item from McDonald's.

Tonight's rain out eliminates the Daytona Cubs from post-season play. The Palm Beach Cardinals have mathematically clinched the 2nd half Eastern Division playoff berth.

The Manatees close out the 2006 season tomorrow.
