VB Dodgers Cruise Past Daytona

August 28, 2006 - Florida State League (FSL1)
Vero Beach Devil Rays News Release

(Vero Beach, FL) - Seven different Vero Beach Dodgers scored and Adam Thomas dealt five shutout innings to help defeat the Daytona Cubs 8-1 Monday night at Holman Stadium. The victory gives the Dodgers back-to-back wins for the first time since August 7-8. The series, weather permitting, continues Tuesday at 7:00 PM.

Thomas (3-4) was terrific for five innings. The 27 year-old allowed just four singles and no runner reached past second base against him. Thomas finished with five strikeouts and no walks. Two of his three wins have come against the Cubs.

Vero Beach gave him a cushion in the second inning. Shane Justis lined a two-run homer to left and Xavier Paul later scored on an error for a 3-0 lead.

The fourth inning opened up a larger advantage for the Dodgers. Juan Apodaca scored two runs with a bases loaded single and Eloy Gutierrez followed with a triple to plate two more. Russ Mitchell then led off the sixth with a solo homer to put the Dodgers ahead by the final score of 8-1.

The series is scheduled to continue Tuesday night with a 7:00 PM game at Holman Stadium. Tropical Storm Ernesto could force a postponement, though a final decision will not be made until Tuesday morning. For up-to-date information, visit the Dodgers website at www.vbdodgers.com.
