August 28, 2006 - Florida State League (FSL1)
Clearwater Threshers News Release
Outfielder Branden Florence set a new Clearwater record for hits in a season on Monday night as the Threshers notched a 5-1 victory over Fort Myers at Bright House Networks Field.
The previous high of 154 was set by Rusty McNamara in 1998. Florence broke the record with a two-out double in the first inning of Monday's game versus the Fort Myers Miracle. He added another double in the seventh inning.
For the season Florence has collected 48 multiple hit games including 17 games with three or more hits. He drilled a season high four hits on August 14 in St Lucie.
Branden currently leads the FSL in hits, is second with 84 RBI and third with a .329 batting average.
Florence was signed by the Phillies in January 2006 as a minor league free agent. Last season he hit .325 in 78 games with the Frederick Keys in the Carolina League. He is a career .305 hitter in five minor league seasons (399 games).
Golson Hits for the Cycle
Centerfielder Greg Golson also hit for the first cycle in Threshers history on Monday night.
Golson, the Phillies first round selection in the 2004 draft (21st overall), led off the game with a home run to left field and followed with a RBI single in the second.
He added the triple on a drive that ricocheted off the top of the left center field fence in the fourth inning. He was hit by a pitch in his next at-bat before doubling in his last appearance in the eighth inning.
His average jumped 23 points to .271 after the effort. In only 34 games, Golson has 7 doubles, 2 triples and 6 home runs.
