Cards bounce back with 6-3 win over Threshers

JUPITER, FL - Brian Martin went 2-for-4 with two RBI and Ty Parker went 2-for-4 with a triple as the Cardinals rallied to beat the Clearwater Threshers 6-3 on Friday night at Roger Dean.

Mark Michael, making his second start since coming off the disabled list and on a pitch count, worked four innings and allowed two runs on six hits. Oscar Alvarez (1-0) picked up the win in relief by giving just a run in three innings.

The Cardinals scored a run in the second inning to take the early lead. Ty Parker doubled and scored on a single by Terry Evans. The Threshers took a 3-1 lead with two runs in the third and one in the fifth, but the Cardinals came back with a run in the fifth, two in the sixth, and two in the seventh to seal the game.

In the fifth, Parker tripled and scored on a single by Rayner Laya. Martin and Dryer drove home runs in the sixth, and in the seventh, Reid Gorecki and Martin drove home runs.

Mark Worrell came on in the ninth for his league-leading 25th save.

In other games of importance, St. Lucie fell to Sarasota at home, and Vero Beach knocked off Lakeland. The Cardinals and Vero Beach are now tied in first place, with St. Lucie a game back.

Game three of the Cardinals' four-game series is Saturday night at 6:05.
