Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release

TAMPA, Fla. - The Fort Myers Miracle went deep three times, including a grand slam by Mark Contreras, and held off the Tampa Tarpons, 8-5, on Wednesday night at George M. Steinbrenner Field.

Down 2-0 in the third, the Miracle scored five times. The first run came home on an RBI single by Luis Arraez, one of his four hits in the game. The other four scored on the grand slam by Contreras, the first of the season for the Miracle.

Fort Myers added two more in the fourth inning on a two-run blast off the bat of Caleb Hamilton, his second long ball of the season. Hamilton reached all four times with two hits and two walks.

Tampa responded with a two-run homer of its own in the bottom of the fourth from Hoy Jun Park. They added another run in the sixth, but that's as close as they would get. Lewin Diaz drove in the final Miracle run with a two-out solo home run to right in the seventh.

The Tarpons outhit the Miracle, 13-11, but Fort Myers was 3-for-6 with runners in scoring position and Tampa went just 2-for-8.

Clark Beeker (3-5) earned the win, despite allowing five runs on 10 hits in 5.2 innings. He walked one and struck out five. Alex Robinson followed with 2.1 innings of scoreless relief, striking out three, and Ryan Mason tossed a scoreless ninth inning to record his second save.

Adonis Rosa (7-2), the league leader in wins, suffered the loss in his worst outing of the season. The right-hander allowed seven runs on nine hits in three-plus innings. He walked two and struck out three.

The series concludes with the rubber game on Thursday night in Tampa. Left-hander Charlie Barnes (2-4, 3.45) will start for the Miracle. First pitch is 6:30 p.m.
