Adirondack Phantoms News Release

PHILADELPHIA - Ryan Potulny scored three consecutive goals in the course of just under four minutes - two in the last 1:43 of regulation and one in overtime - to lift the Philadelphia Phantoms to a remarkable 3-2 overtime victory over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at the Wachovia Spectrum on Friday night.

The Phantoms had been trailing 2-0 on two Bridgeport first-period goals. Just 6:51 into the game, Sean Bentivoglio put a shot on net that Scott Munroe stopped, but the rebound escaped and slid into the slot. Jamie Fraser was closing and easily deposited the puck into a mostly open net for the 1-0 advantage.

The lead became 2-0 later in the first period on a power play tally. Jeff Tambellini was at the top of the right circle and fired a shot that went through a screen before being perfectly deflected by Steve Regier over Munroe's glove-side shoulder with 1:54 left in the period.

There was no scoring until Potulny began his outburst with 1:43 remaining in regulation time. His first goal came off the rebound of a shot by Steve Downie. Potulny was in the bottom of the right circle, where he was able to flip the puck high over Joey MacDonald to make it 2-1.

The game-tying marker came with just 18 seconds to play. Jared Ross won a right-side faceoff back to the point, where Alexandre Picard collected it and fired it on the net through traffic. Boyd Kane pushed the rebound back on net, and Potulny pitchforked it underneath MacDonald for the 2-2- deadlock.

Potulny completed his heroics at 2:11 of overtime. The goal came on a 4-on-3 power play that had Downie and Potulny playing the points. The duo pinched in to the circles before Downie fed a pass across to Potulny, whose one-timer went through a screen and into the upper right corner.

Potulny's feat spanned three minutes and 54 seconds, which is a new Phantoms franchise record for fastest three goals by a single player. It broke the mark of 4:10 set by Jason Zent in a 4-1 win vs. Albany on November 6, 1998 at the Spectrum.

Philadelphia's 19 third period shots were three more than they had in the first two periods combined (16). Also, with the game-winnner coming on the power play, the Phantoms continued their streak of scoring at least one power play goal in every game this season. Philadelphia finished the game 1-for-8 on the man-advantage, while Bridgeport was 1-for-7.

Munroe ended up with the win with 29 saves on 31 shots. MacDonald absorbed the tough loss with a total of 33 saves on 36 Phantoms bids. The win moves the Phantoms to a record of 12-1-1, which continues the best start out of the gate in team history.

The Phantoms head north to take on the Binghamton Senators on Saturday night before coming back to the Spectrum to host the Albany River Rats on Sunday at 5:05 PM. Flyers defenseman Randy Jones will be on hand to sign autographs from 4-5 PM, and it's the second half of Scout Weekend at the Spectrum.
