Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators dropped their second straight contest with a 3-0 shutout loss Friday night at the hands of I-81 rival Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. The Penguins got goals from Nathan Smith, Mark Ardelan, and Ryan Stone while B-Sens' netminder Jeff Glass turned away 34 of 37 shots including 18 in the middle stanza before a sell out crowd of 4,710 at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.
After neither team was able to find the back of the net in a high-energy first period, Smith scored the eventual game-winner when he backhanded home the rebound from a Ryan Lannon shot at 17:16 of the second period. Stone was credited with the second assist on the goal.
The Penguins made it 2-0 just 17 seconds later with a blast from Ardelan over B-Sens goalie Jeff Glass' outstretched glove from the top of the left circle. The assists went to Jeff Taffe and Connor James.
Stone capped the night's scoring when mid-way through the final frame he took a feed from Smith off a 2-on-1 and slide the puck by Glass.
Binghamton put 22 shots on Penguins goalie Ty Conklin, but were not able to slip one past the veteran netminder. The best chance of the night came when forward Niko Dimitrakos rang a slap shot of the post from the hash marks at 14:30 of the second period.
The B-Sens will go for the weekend split tomorrow night when they host the first place Philadelphia Phantoms to the Arena on Military Appreciation Night.
