Rochester Americans News Release
Rochester, November 9)... The Rochester Americans earned their fourth straight win of the season with a 5-4 shootout victory over the Hamilton Bulldogs tonight at Copps Coliseum. The Amerks (7-7-1-1) now sit in second place in the American Hockey League's North Division standings with 16 points, just two behind the Toronto Marlies.
Rochester scored four straight goals and rallied from a three-goal deficit in the third period, scoring three goals within three minutes to force overtime. After the scoreless extra frame, forwards Mark Mancari and Stefan Meyer netted the only two goals in the shootout to give Rochester the win.
Dylan Hunter, Marek Zagrapan, Marc-Andre Gragnani and Meyer provided the scoring for Rochester, while Hamilton's offense was powered by Duncan Milroy (1+3) and Matt D'Agostini (1+1).
Adam Dennis made 28 saves in his fourth consecutive start for the Amerks to improve to 7-3-1 on the season. Hamilton's Jaroslav Halak kicked away 15 of Rochester's 19 shots in the losing effort between the pipes for the defending Calder Cup champions.
Hamilton took an early 2-0 lead in the opening period with goals from Cory Urquhart and Milroy. The markers came just under three minutes apart from each other.
Maxim Lapierre scored just 1:30 into the second period to give the âDogs a 3-0 lead over the Amerks. Ryan O'Byrne and Milroy were each credited with assists on the play. The tally was Lapierre's seventh on the season.
Hamilton jumped out to a 4-0 lead as D'Agostini converted on the power play to net his fourth of the year at 12:07 of the second frame. Sergei Kostitsyn and Milroy each assisted on the man advantage play.
Gragnani scored his first of the season in the closing minutes of the period on the power play to finally put Rochester on the board.
The Amerks came out flying in the third determined to get back in the game. Rochester's flourish of third-period goals was sparked by Hunter's sixth of the season just 3:09 into the final frame. The tally extended Hunter's current point-scoring streak to five games (4+5). Dan Collins and Tanner Glass picked up the helpers.
Meyer scored less than three minutes later to bring Rochester within one goal. Rob Globke and Franklin MacDonald recorded the assists on the goal. The assist was MacDonald's first this season after being reassigned from the Florida Everblades (ECHL) to the Amerks earlier today.
Zagrapan scored the equalizer just 26 seconds later to tie the game 4-4. The goal was his seventh of the year. With the goal, Zagrapan extended his current point streak to five games (5+1). Anthony Stewart notched an assist on the play to also extend his scoring streak to four games (1+3).
Rochester will make its second trip of the season down the I-90 Interstate to the War Memorial at Oncenter to face the Syracuse Crunch on Saturday, November 10th. The game will be the fourth of 12 scheduled meetings between the two rivals this season. The 7:30 p.m. contest will be broadcast live on Hot Talk 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and B2 networks.
