Mississippi Braves News Release
PEARL, MS -- Atlanta Braves left-handed pitcher Mike Minor is scheduled to make his final rehab start with the Mississippi Braves Friday at Pensacola. First pitch is set for 6:30 PM at Pensacola Bayfront Stadium. Minor began the 2014 season on Atlanta's 15-day disabled list with left shoulder tendonitis.
The 26-year-old southpaw's spring work was delayed after he underwent a urinary-tract procedure on December 31 and was not able to complete early work in January. The Braves slowed Minor's spring schedule after he felt left shoulder soreness early in camp. He made his first start of the spring against the Braves Future Stars in the Atlanta Braves Exhibition Game at Low-A Rome Saturday, March 29.
Minor joined the M-Braves for a rehab start on Opening Night at Trustmark Park where he struck out five batters in two innings despite giving up three earned runs on four hits and a homer in the first inning. Since that game, Minor has made two appearances at Triple-A Gwinnett (April 8 & 19), picking up the win in both games and posting a 3.24 ERA. He struck out eight in 8.1 innings of work. Minor also made one start at Low-A Rome April 13, where he gave up just one hit in five frames.
A native of Chapel Hill, TN, Minor ranks fourth in the majors with a 2.90 ERA since the 2012 All-Star break (40 start minimum). During that span, Minor is 19-13 in 46 starts. He led the A-Braves in innings pitched in 2013 (204.2 IP) and 2012 (179.1 IP), and he also ranked eighth in the National League with a 3.93 strikeout-to-walk ratio last season.
Minor, a first round draft pick by the Braves in 2009, made his major league debut on August 9, 2010. He started the 2010 season at Double-A Mississippi (2-6, 4.03), striking out 109 batters in 87.0 innings pitched before moving up to Triple-A Gwinnett ( 4-1, 1.89) and on to Atlanta (3-2, 5.98).
The Mississippi Braves are currently on a 10-game road trip. The M-Braves return to Trustmark Park for a five-game series against the Jacksonville Suns April 30 through May 4.
The Mississippi Braves is the Double-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. Since making the move from Greenville, SC, in 2005, over 80 M-Braves have gone on to play in the big leagues. The M-Braves have made postseason play three times and went on to win the Southern League Championship in 2008. Tickets are on sale now. Stop by Trustmark Park or call 888-BRAVES4 Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. For the latest news and updates, visit mississippibraves.com, facebook.com/mbraves and twitter.com/mbraves.
