Generals Win Second Straight over Lookouts

JACKSON, TENN. (APRIL 23, 2014) - The Generals (11-9) wrapped up their series with the Chattanooga Lookouts (8-11) with a 5-3 win Wednesday. The Generals took the final two games of their homestand after dropping the first three.

Jackson jumped out to an early lead again on Wednesday as Dan Paolini (1-3, 3 RBI, R) homered in the first inning down the left field line to score Jabari Blash (1-2, R, 2 BB) and Kevin Rivers (1-3, RBI, R)

Blash added an RBI single in the second to score Jack Marder (2-2, 2 R, BB) and push the Generals' lead to 4-0

Chattanooga responded with a three-run sixth inning to cut it's deficit to 4-3.

Starter Cam Hobson (2-1) earned his second victory (both against Chattanooga) after tossing 5.1 innings. Despite allowing three runs in the sixth, Jackson's bullpen held his early advantage.

Jordan Shipers (H, 1) went 2.2 innings and allowed just one hit. Richard Vargas (1) earned his first save of the season after retiring the game's final three batters in the ninth.

Kevin Rivers provided the final insurance run in the seventh with a sacrifice fly to score Marder and put Jackson ahead 5-3

W- Cam Hobson (2-1): 5.1 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 2 SO, 0 HR, 3.97 ERA

L- Garrett Gould (0-4): 5.0 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 3 SO, 1 HR, 8.31 ERA

S- Richard Vargas: 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 SO, 0 HR, 4.66 ERA

The Generals hit the road Thursday and start a five-game road series at Mobile at 7:05 p.m. at Hank Aaron Stadium. LHP James Gillheeney (0-0, 0.00) will get his first 2014 Jackson start and be opposed by RHP A.J. Schugel (1-0, 3.86).
