Gillheeney to start on Thursday night at Mobile

JACKSON, TENN. - The Seattle Mariners have announced the following roster moves that affect the Generals roster. INF Nate Melendres has been placed on the 7-day DL with a back strain, retroactive to April 22nd. LHP James Gillheeney has been added to Jackson's roster from AAA Tacoma and will start for the Generals on Thursday at Mobile.

Melendres, 23, in 13 games is batting .333 (14x42) with 3 doubles, 1 triple and 4 RBI. He hit safely in 8 of 13 games to start the 2014 season. Melendres was the Mariners 17th round selection in the 2011 draft out of Miami (FL).

Gillheeney, 26, was 1-2, with a 7.59 ERA (9 ER/10.2 IP) with AAA Tacoma in 3 starts so far in 2014. He returns to Jackson where has made 36 career starts and has a 9-13 overall record with a 4.60 ERA. Last season Gillheeney was 7-7, with a 4.08 ERA in 20 starts for the Generals. He made his AA debut in 2010. Gillheeney was Seattle's 8th round selection in the 2009 draft out of North Carolina State.

The Generals roster stands at 25 active players with 2 on the disabled list.
