
Minor Impresses Home Crowd with Win vs. Norfolk

The Lead: The Gwinnett Braves defeated the Norfolk Tides 9-4 on Tuesday night at Coolray Field. Gwinnett starting pitcher Mike Minor continued his impressive start for the Triple-A Braves. For the second start in a row, he allowed only 1 run. The G-Braves also remain undefeated this season in the first game of a homestand (6-0). Gwinnett (42-44) remains in third place in the International League South but is now 9.5 games behind Durham. Norfolk (40-47) remains in fourth place in the IL South and 12 games behind Durham.
It Was Over When: Minor stepped on the mound. In 5.0 IP, he struck out 6 batters.
Braves Beat:
On the Mound: In 12.2 IP for the G-Braves, Minor (2-0) has struck out 15 batters and allowed only 2 R/ER. Craig Kimbrel earned his 12th save of the year, holding Norfolk scoreless in the final 1.2 innings of the game.
At the plate: IL All-Star Barbaro Canizares (3-for-4) had 3 RBI on the evening. Diory Hernandez (2-for-5) extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a single in the 4th inning. Freeman extends his on-base streak to 26 games, going 1-for-5. Mitch Jones hit his 15th home run of the year when he led off the bottom of the 6th inning. Willy Taveras had his first stolen base, walk, run scored, double, and RBI in his first home game as a Gwinnett Brave.
The Opposition:
On the Mound: Starter Zach Britton (0-1) allowed 4 runs (3 ER) on 7 hits in 4.2 IP.
At the plate: Matt Angle went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Rhyne Hughes went 2-for-5 with a run scored.
On Deck: Gwinnett hosts Norfolk in the final game of a two-game set tomorrow afternoon at 2:05 p.m. at Coolray Field. G-Braves LHP Jo-Jo Reyes (1-5, 6.10 ERA) is scheduled to face LHP Troy Patton (5-9, 4.84 ERA) of the Tides. Tomorrow's game can be seen nationally on the MLB Network, locally on CSS and can be heard on 1240 AM ESPN Radio.
