Durham Bulls News Release

(Fort Mill, SC) Joe Dillon's sac fly in the sixth got Durham within a run, but that was as close as the Bulls would get in a 10-4 road loss to Charlotte on Tuesday night.

Durham had taken advantage of four walks and Dillon's sac fly off Carlos Torres (7-5) to get within a run at 4-3 in the top of the sixth. However, Charlotte answered against Carlos Hernandez (6-4) in the bottom half.

Luis Rodriguez doubled on the ground over the third base bag to start the frame, and Donny Lucy walked on four pitches to put two on. Cleanup hitter Tyler Flowers delivered a surprising bunt hit to load the bases. After Josh Kroeger lined to right, Stefan Gartrell lined a double to left center, clearing the bases, and giving Charlotte a 7-3 cushion. The Knights added a pair of runs on singles by Brent Morel and Rob Hudson to chase Hernandez.

Charlotte collected 12 hits off three Bulls pitchers, as Gartrell drove in four runs with the double and a solo homer. Jordan Danks added a pair of two-run homers.

The Knights held Durham to just three hits, as the Bulls were unable to fully take advantage of seven walks by Charlotte pitching.

Durham (51-34) still leads Charlotte (43-44) by nine games in the South Division. The Bulls will look to split the two-game series on Wednesday when former Knights pitcher Heath Phillips takes the mound for Durham against Jeff Marquez. Coverage on 620 the Buzz begins at 7 p.m., with first pitch at 7:15.
