Minnesota Lynx Sign Guard Sharneé Zoll

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL - The Minnesota Lynx today announced the signing of guard Sharneé Zoll. To make room on the 13-player roster, the Lynx waived guard Crystal Smith.

A four-year starter at the University of Virginia, Zoll wrapped up her illustrious Cavalier career by becoming the Atlantic Coast Conference's all-time assists leader (785 career assists) and leading the 2007-08 squad to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Zoll broke the 16-year-old record held by former Virginia great Dawn Staley (729 career assists).

A 5-foot-7 guard, Zoll was one of the most decorated guards in Cavalier history. In addition to owning the career assists record, the Marlboro, N.J., native ranks in the all-time top 10 in career steals (234; No. 5) and was a three-time all-ACC selection. She closed her senior season with averages of 8.5 points and 6.4 assists per game. For her four-year career, Zoll averaged 8.9 points and 5.9 assists in 132 games.

Smith, a 5-foot-4 point guard, played in two preseason contests with the Lynx tallying a total of 12 points and four assists. She played in Sunday's 2008 season-opening game against the Detroit Shock, failing to score in one minute of play. She spent the 2007 season with the Comets, appearing in 27 games with 23 starts. She averaged 6.3 points, 2.7 assists, and 2.0 rebounds per game while averaging 25.3 minutes per game. As a rookie in 2006, she averaged 2.7 points in 22 games with the Phoenix Mercury.
