Minnesota Lynx News Release

Minneapolis/St. Paul- In conjunction with the WNBA's Inspiring Women platform, the Minnesota Lynx today announced the 2014 "Inspiring Women" series. The platform celebrates the accomplishments of women throughout the state of Minnesota who inspire, motivate and encourage others around them through personal and professional leadership. Beginning in May, the Lynx will honor one woman per month during the 2014 season. Each winner will be awarded a team-autographed basketball and receive recognition on LynxBasketball.com as an opportunity to tell their story.

Minnesota's "Inspiring Women" series will honor its first nominee during the game against New York Liberty on Saturday, May 24 at Target Center. Fans can submit nominations of inspirational people from their lives by visiting the Community tab on LynxBasketball.com.

Last season, in the second year of the "Inspiring Women" platform, the Minnesota Lynx honored four individuals:

June Winner: Natalie Ginter was recognized for her work as the South Region of Allina Health's Community Engagement Manager. She partners with area communities and residents to support their vision for health that focuses on environmental changes and policies that promote healthy, active living.

July Winner: Dr. Nicole LaVoi was honored for her research efforts at the Tucker Center for Research on Girls & Women in Sport, which is leading an effort examining how sport and physical activity affects the lives of girls and women. She also co-founded the Minnesota Youth Sports Research Consortium.

August Winner: Capt. Tara Robertson was recognized for her service as an officer in the Minnesota National Guard. She spent eight years in the military, participating in 208 missions overseas and receiving a Combat Action Badge.

September Winner: Educator Dorothy McIntyre was honored for spending her whole professional career working toward advancing girls' and women's athletics in Minnesota. She also co-authored "Daughters of the Game," which gives the history of girls basketball in Minnesota from 1891-1942.
