Minnesota Lynx News Release
MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL - The Minnesota Lynx today announced the team's preseason schedule for the upcoming 2010 WNBA season, which includes two games against the Chicago Sky. The Lynx will play host to the Sky at Gangelhoff Center on the campus of Concordia University, St. Paul on April 30 at 11:00 a.m., and will travel to Chicago to play the Sky in their new home, Allstate Arena, on May 6 at 11:30 a.m. The Lynx will also host a closed scrimmage against the Chinese National Team on May 12, three days before the Lynx tip-off the team's 2010 regular season schedule in Tulsa on May 15.
"As we move closer to the tip-off of our regular season on May 15, we are very excited to bring Lynx basketball to the campus of Concordia University, St. Paul," said Lynx chief operating officer Conrad Smith. "Gangelhoff Center will be a tremendous venue for our team to play in as we prepare for what we expect to be a very successful 2010 season."
"The university is ecstatic about the opportunity to bring the best female basketball players in the world to our campus," said Concordia University, St. Paul's facilities manager Tom Mauer. "We've been fortunate enough to host the Women's Division II NCAA Volleyball Tournament the past two years at Gangelhoff Center, and we look forward to hosting another tremendous event featuring multiple Olympic athletes in Seimone Augustus and Sylvia Fowles, and two first-class organizations in the Minnesota Lynx and the Chicago Sky."
This year's preseason game at Gangelhoff Center in St. Paul, Minn., will mark the first time the Lynx have played on the campus of Concordia University, St. Paul. Other than Target Center, the Lynx have played preseason games in Mankato (1999), Rochester (2000 and 2003), and St. Joseph (2009). Minnesota also played two preseason contests on the campus of the University of Minnesota - at Williams Arena in 2005 and at the Sports Pavilion in 2006.
The Lynx are 15-14 all-time in preseason play. This year's matchups with the Sky will be the first and second preseason meetings between the two teams.
Tickets for the matinee at Concordia University, St. Paul will go on sale at a later date.
Concordia is a Christian liberal arts university, one of 10 owned and operated by The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.
The Minnesota Lynx will tip off the team's 17-game home schedule with its Home Opener on Sunday, May 16 at 6:00 p.m. against the Washington Mystics. Lower-level tickets are available for as little as $10 and can be purchased by calling 612-673-8400, e-mailing tickets@lynxbasketball.com, or visiting the Lynx website at www.lynxbasketball.com.
