Minnesota Challenges Quad City to Money Game
January 7, 2007 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Quad City Riverhawks News Release
Davenport - The #7 ranked Quad City Riverhawks (13-5), will be taking on the #4 ranked Minnesota Ripknees (12-3) in a previously unscheduled "Money Game" at the Field House Sports Complex (formerly Marycrest College Activity Center) tomorrow night at 7:00pm.
The Ripknees are playing the #21 ranked Sauk Valley Rollers (7-8) this evening and challenged Riverhawks and Rollers owner Tom McGinn to a game with a $2,500 prize purse. The winning team will receive $1,500, which will be divided among the players and coaching staff, from the ABA and the losing team will receive $,1000. The "Money Game" concept was introduced by the ABA at the start of 2007.
Tickets for the game will be $5 at the door. McGinn isn't sure on the size of the crowd, with only 24 hours notice, but is optimistic as his 2 home games since bringing the Hammond Rollers team to the Sauk Valley area at the end of December have been near sell-outs .
The Riverhawks next home game is Thursday, January 11 at 7:05pm against the Twin City Ballers and the #23 ranked Peoria Kings (8-10) come back to the Quad Cities to battle for the traveling trophy in the "War on 74" Friday, January 12 at 7:05pm sponsored by NewsChannel 8, WQAD-TV. Tickets are available by logging onto www.etix.com, calling the Riverhawks office at 563/445-2375 or are available at the Field House Sports Complex (formerly Marycrest) prior to the game.
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
