Strong Island Sound News Release

Rockville, MD - Strong Island scored 10 straight points during a 4:28 stretch late in the fourth quarter, and the Sound rallied from a 10-point deficit to beat the Maryland Nighthawks 119-109 on Friday night.

With the Nighthawks leading 103-101 on a 3D basket by Dennis Edwards with 6:28 remaining in the game, Raphael Edwards started the decisive run with a three-pointer from the top of the key. Brian Woodward followed with four straight free throws and a Gregory Plummer made basket as the Sound took the lead for good.

"We stepped up on defense, hustled for the ball, and got important rebounds," stated Plummer answering a post-game question on Strong Island's fourth quarter, in which they outscored Maryland 32-18. Plummer, who will be representing the Sound at the ABA All-Star Game in Nova Scotia, led the Sound with 30 points, while Raphael Edwards had 24 points and seven rebounds as the Sound picked up their third win in five meeting with the Nighthawks. "We had a real good week of practice, and it showed on the court tonight," stated Edwards.

Sound head coach Dytanya Mixson stated where he sees his team now that they improved their record to 11-6 and continue to hold on to first place in the Blue Central Division, "We're on track, but could be better. We have seven players (on the roster) with three games or less under their belts. We still have to gel."

Dennis Edwards scored a game high 32 points to lead Maryland. Andrew Washington had 23 points and a game high 12 rebounds, Mark Karcher 15 and Anton Jenifer 11 as the Nighthawks dropped their second straight game against the Strong Island Sound.
