Minnesota Lynx McBride - 19 Shepard - 14 Allen - 6

Connecticut Sun Bonner - 31 Thomas - 14 Thomas - 11

Lynx Notes

Kayla McBride led the Lynx in scoring once again today in Connecticut with 19 points, on 7-of-10 from the field and 4-of-7 from the three-point line and added three assists in 33:01 minutes.

With her three-point basketball at the 2:44 mark of the second quarter, McBride officially surpassed 4,000 career points. She passed Ashja Jones for 44th on the WNBA's all-time scoring list and sits with a new total of 4,016 points.

Jessica Shepard had a strong game, picking up her ninth career double-double with 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting and a game-high-tying 14 rebounds. Today marks her sixth 10+ rebound game and third career double-double as a reserve, becoming the Lynx franchise leader in both categories coming off the bench.

Per Across the Timeline, Shepard becomes only the second player in WNBA history to have multiple games with 12+ points and 14+ rebounds off the bench in the regular season. She joins Dearica Hamby in this feat.

Lindsay Allen tied her season-high with 16 points and helped pushed the Lynx' offensive efforts with a team-high six assists in 32:25 minutes of the game.

Team Notes

Minnesota outscored Connecticut in the paint 52-42, the second time this season tallying 50+ paint points (June 27 vs. Seattle). The Lynx move to 2-0 when doing so.

In keeping Connecticut's shooting to 38.9% (28-of-72), the Lynx have held opponents under 40% shooting from the field for the second straight game and the fifth time overall this season (5-0). The Lynx move to 146-6 when keeping their opponent under 40.0% from the field since 2011.

The Lynx finished the game shooting 57.4% (35-of-61) from the field, the fifth time this season ending the game shooting 50% or better from field. Minnesota moves to 113-11 since 2011 when doing so.

Combined with the Sun shooting 38.9% from the field, Minnesota now sits with a record of 60-1 all-time when shooting better than 50% while holding their opponent to under 40%.

Today's 87-83 win over Connecticut is the Lynx' eighth in a row in two-possession games (decided by six points or less). It's the longest running such run of success by any WNBA team since Minnesota closed with the 2021 season with seven consecutive victories. The last string of eight or more occurred in 2018, when Atlanta went unbeaten for the season in that category (11-0) as part of a 23-11 record.

Sun Notes

With her fourth triple-double of the season, Alyssa Thomas led the way for the Sun today, ending the game with 17 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists in 38:08 minutes.

The Lynx will take on Connecticut for the second game of a double-header. The first game will take place on Tuesday, August 1. Tip is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. CT (7:00 p.m. ET) and will air on ESPN.
