Miners Trade Wilburn, Sign Guzman

MARION, Ill. - The Southern Illinois Miners have traded left-handed relief pitcher Brian Wilburn to the San Angelo Colts of the United League in exchange for future considerations. The Miners have also signed second baseman Juan Guzman who will be active for tonight's game against Rockford.

Wilburn had no record and a 3.75 ERA in seven relief appearances this season. In 2007 he went 1-1 with a 5.03 ERA in 34.0 innings with the Miners.

Guzman, 26, hit .296 in 52 games during the 2005 and 2006 seasons with the Seattle Mariners organization. In 2005 he finished eighth in the Arizona League in batting average (.320) and drove in 24 RBI in 35 games for the M's rookie league affiliate. He is a switch-hitter and a native of Santiago, Dominican Republic.

The Miners host Rockford in Game 2 of a three-game series tonight at 7:05. It's Must Win Monday at Rent One Park.
