Milwaukee Sneaks Out A 2-1 OT Win, Takes Series Lead 3-2

Cedar Park, TX - The Texas Stars (2-3) were defeated by the Milwaukee Admirals (3-2) 2-1 in overtime of Game 5 of the West Division Semifinal on Friday night in front of 6,126 fans at Cedar Park Center.

Admirals forward Ryan Thang scored the game-winning goal with 3:31 left in overtime to give Milwaukee a 3-2 series lead. Left wing Gabriel Bourque scored the game-tying goal with five seconds remaining in regulation to force the extra session. Right wing Ray Sawada notched the lone goal for Texas while defenseman Philip Larsen and center Aaron Gagnon each tallied a point on the play. Milwaukee goalie Jeremy Smith (3-2) stopped 40 shots as the Stars outshot the Admirals 41 to 38. Texas goalie Richard Bachman (2-3) made 36 saves in the overtime loss. The series shifts to Milwaukee for Game 6 this Monday at 7:00 PM.

Texas grabbed an early lead at 10:20 of the first period as right wing Ray Sawada scored on the power play. Defensemen Philip Larsen and center Aaron Gagnon each helped set up the goal for the 1-0 tally.

The Admirals tied the game 1-1 with under ten seconds remaining in regulation after pulling the goalie for the extra skater. Forward Gabriel Bourque tipped a loose puck in the Texas crease to tie the game with five seconds left in regulation and force overtime. Right wing Chris Mueller and center Steve Begin each provided an assist at 19:55.

Milwaukee forward Ryan Thang pushed the Admirals past the Stars with 3:31 remaining in overtime, beating goalie Richard Bachman with a slapshot from the right wing. Forward Mark Van Guilder had the lone assist to secure the 2-1 victory and 3-2 series lead.
