NORFOLK, Va. - Nick Petersen scored two power play goals in the first period for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, who held on to defeat the Norfolk Admirals, 2-1, in Game Five of the East Division Semifinals on Friday night at Norfolk Scope Arena. The Admirals now trail in the best-of-seven series, three games to two, with Game Six scheduled for tomorrow night at the Mohegan Sun Arena at 7:05 p.m.

Mark Barberio scored Norfolk's lone goal while goaltender Dustin Tokarski stopped 23 of 25 shots in defeat.

The Penguins took a 1-0 lead with a five-on-three power play goal 8:16 into the contest. Andrew Hutchinson sent a pass from the right point to Brett Sterling at the bottom of the right circle. Sterling quickly passed the puck across the slot to Petersen for a back-door tap-in goal past Tokarski's right leg.

Petersen doubled Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's lead with another power play goal late in the first period. He entered the attacking zone with speed along the right wing and dropped a pass to Sterling in the faceoff circle. Sterling's attempted shot went wide to Tokarski's left and hit the end boards. Petersen collected the loose puck behind the net and wrapped a shot around the opposite post at 19:13.

After a scoreless second stanza, the Admirals drew to within a goal of the Penguins midway through the third period on the power play. Mattias Ritola sent a pass from the left half wall to Barberio in the high slot. Barberio sent a slap shot through traffic that eluded Wilkes-Barre/Scranton goaltender Brad Thiessen along the ice at 9:45.

Norfolk out-shot the Penguins 12-6 in the final frame and pulled Tokarski in favor of the extra attacker in the final minute of regulation. However, they were unable to get the equalizer as they fell, 2-1.

Dustin Tokarski (25 shots, 23 saves) registered the loss. Brad Thiessen (24 shots, 23 saves) got the win.

Norfolk was 1-6 on the power play. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton was 2-4.

The best-of-seven East Division Semifinals series continues with Game Six tomorrow night and Game Seven (if necessary) on Monday night at the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza. Both games begin at 7:05 p.m.
