
Miller Drives in Five for Calgary in Win

Scoring 11 runs in the first three innings the Calgary Vipers went onto defeat the Tijuana Big Horn Sheep 12-7 at Foothills Stadium in Calgary, Alberta. Offensively the Vipers were led by all-star Drew Miller who blasted two home runs and collected five runs batted in. With the victory the Snakes improved to 1-1 on the second half of the Golden Baseball League season and 24-21 overall.
Dusty Gober (5-1) recorded the victory in pitching his team into the eighth inning while Scott Watson and Jorge Vasquez both tossed scoreless frames out of the bullpen.
Tijuana opened the scoring in the top of the first inning when Jamie McGraw walked, stole second base, scored on a Mark Samuelson run batted in single, and Carlos Domingues hit a two run shot for a 3-0 advantage.
Calgary quickly tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the frame as Jonny Kaplan walked, Jorge Mejia singled, and Drew Miller launched his team high 12th home run of the season.
The Vipers went ahead big in the second with six runs for a 9-3 lead. Guillermo Reyes and Luis Taveras singled, Dusty Gober reached on a sacrifice-error to load the bases, Kaplan drove in one with a base hit, Brent Metheny doubled in two, one run scored on a wild pitch, and Miller hit a two run big fly for his second long ball of the contest.
In the third inning Calgary continued to score when Reyes singled, Taveras doubled him home, and Kaplan tripled in one for a 11-3 advantage.
The Big Horn Sheep got two runs back in the fifth as Michael Surina and Odie Davis singled followed by a two-run double from Domingues for a 11-5 score.
Tijuana scored two more tallies in the seventh frame as Surina doubled and Samuelson nailed a two-run homer for a 11-7 game.
The Snakes got a run back in the eighth inning as Metheny walked, stole second base, advanced to third base on a Julio Ramirez fly out, and scored on a wild pitch for a 12-7 lead.
The Vipers continue this series in Calgary at Foothills Stadium on Friday July 16th at 7:05 PM MDT with Mexican Night, Saturday July 17th at 5:05 PM MDT with Country Day, and Sunday July 18th at 1:35 PM MDT with Family Day against the Tijuana Big Horn Sheep.
