Flyers Return from GBL-NoL All-Star Game with 8 Games in 7 Days

Tucson, Arizona (July 14, 2010) - The Northern League defeated the Golden Baseball League 9-3 in the International Minor League All-Star Game at Hi Corbett Field on Wednesday. CF Jason James of the Rockford RiverHawks was named the game's MVP after going 2-for-3 with a double, run scored and 2 RBI for the NL.

The Northern League got off to a fast start, with the first 5 batters of the game all reaching on a hit. The NL would score 3 earned runs off of GBL starter Wes Etheridge (MAU), matching the number the righthander has allowed in his first 43 innings in regular season play this season. The NL would add a run in the 2nd inning and again in the 3rd to take a 5-0 lead on 3B Brad Corell's solo shot to left.

The Golden Baseball League fought back in the 4th when RF Timothy Rodriguez (YUM) singled, stole second and was driven in by C Mike Rose (CHO). J.J. Sherrill (CHO) drew a pinch hit walk in the 5th and would later come around to score on an RBI single to left by 2B Jimmy Rohan (OCY) to make the score 5-2.

3B Ramos Amos hit a bases loaded triple down the rightfield line for the NL in the 7th to open up a 9-2 lead. CF Lino Garcia (TUC) and Sherrill hit back-to-back doubles in the top of the 9th to cap the scoring at 9-3.

The box score was full at the end of the night, with a total of 45 players seeing action. Five Tucson Toros made appearances including Garcia who finished 1-for-3 with a double and run scored. SS Ryan Priddy (TUC) was 0-for-5 with a couple of hard line drive outs. Righthanders John Bannister, Andrew Snowdon (TUC) and Emiliano Fruto (TUC) all threw scoreless frames, combining for 5 strikeouts.

The Orange County Flyers return from the GBL All-Star break today, beginning a four-game series against the St. George RoadRunners. The Flyers will finish out their first half with three games against St. George before beginning their second-half of the season with game 46 in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader. The Flyers will play eight games in seven days this week, with a four game series against the Chico Outlaws beginning Sunday.
