Orange County Flyers News Release

The St. George RoadRunners used a five-run fourth inning along with a strong start from Raymar Diaz to defeat the Orange County Flyers, 5-2, at Goodwin Field on Thursday. The RoadRunners are now 1-0 in the second half of the GBL season, while the Flyers won't start their second half until the second game of Saturday's doubleheader.

Reymar Diaz earned the win for St. George in his 10th start of the season, tossing seven scoreless innings and surrendering only three hits. Diaz (3-6) struck out four Flyers while walking three. Flyers starter Jake Renshaw took the loss, giving up five runs (two earned) in 3 and 1/3 innings of work in his third start of the season.

The RoadRunners struck for five runs in the top of the fourth inning while sending 10 players to the plate. Brett Flowers led off the inning with a double and scored on Yosvany Almario's RBI single one batter later. Henry Calderon and Joe Dickerson reached on a single and an error, respectively. Scott Clement, CJ Lang, and Jermy Acey added RBI singles in the rest of the inning to give the RoadRunners a 5-0 lead, with only two of the runs being earned.

The Flyers got on the board against reliever Mitch Arnold, scoring two runs in the bottom of the eighth. Steve Boggs started a two-out rally with a single into center field, followed by a Derek Perren walk. After a wild-pitch advanced the runners into scoring position, Jimmy Rohan hit a two-run single to right field to cut the Flyers deficit to 5-2.

Jose Obispo pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning for his first save of the season. Jesse Smith, Bryan Harris, Brandon Parillo and Andre Simpson pitched a combined 5 and 2/3 scoreless innings of relief for the Flyers.

The Orange County Flyers and St. George RoadRunners continue their four game series on Friday at 6:05 pm at "The Station" Goodwin Field.
