
Outlaws Drop Series Opener 7-1 to Victoria

The Chico Outlaws dropped the first game of their second half by a 7-1 count on Thursday night at the Nett to the Victoria Seals.
Isaac Hess (2-0) started for the Seals and pitched seven superb innings, allowing no runs on just three hits, striking out six Outlaws. Garret Holleran (5-2) took his second loss of the year, allowing all seven runs of the night to Victoria in the fourth and fifth innings.
The Seals' Matt Edgecombe plated the first run of the game on an RBI single in the fourth inning.
Six more runs would come home for Victoria in the fifth, with Matt Kavanaugh hitting a solo homer and Chris Van Rossum adding a two-run blast of his own, which ended Holleran's night. Terrance McClain and Brian Rios added RBI singles in the frame and it was 7-0 Seals.
The Outlaws lone run of the game was unearned after an error by Victoria second baseman Dale Swinford allowed pinch hitter Anthony Manuel to reach second after he led off the frame with a single. Manuel eventuall scored on a JJ Sherrill RBI single, making it a six run lead for the Seals heading to the ninth and ultimately the final score of 7-1.
The Outlaws are 0-1 now in the first half; 33-13 overall. Victoria finishes their first half at 22-23 and in fourth place in the GBL North.
Game two of the three game series is Friday night at the Nett as leftie Demetrius Banks starts for Chico opposite the Seals' Andrew Arreola. Game time is 7:05 pm.

OUTLAWS NOTES: The Outlaws signed Manuel Thursday afternoon before the game and added him to the roster before the game once it was determined CF Blake Gailen would not be ready to play....Manuel is the son of current New York Mets manager Jerry Manuel, a long-time friend of Outlaws field boss Garry Templeton.....Newly acquired third baseman Santo DeLeon went 1-4 with a double in his Outlaws debut after being acquired during the All Star break from the Yuma Scorpions.
