OCONOMOWOC, Wis. - The Milwaukee Milken defeated the Lake Country DockHounds in game one of their final road series of the regular season to officially clinch a playoff spot in the 2023 Miles Wolff Cup Playoffs.
The game began scoreless until the third inning when Bryan Torres smashed a three-run homer to give Milwaukee an early lead. The Milkmen then added another two runs in the following inning with a ground-rule double from Rudy Martin Jr. before Drew Ward scored on a wild pitch.
The DockHounds then put up three runs in the bottom of the fourth to make it a two-run game, but the Milkmen came right back in the fifth and scored another.
Juan Echevarria then finished up his night going five innings giving up just those three runs on three hits while striking out five.
The Milkmen added another run in the seventh when Roy Morales scored Cam Balego with a single. Milwaukee then put the dagger in the coffin when Ward and Martin Jr. both hit homers in the seventh to add three to the Milkmen lead and give Milwaukee 10 runs on the night.
"It's a hitting-friendly ballpark and Drew and Rudy both got pitches they liked," Milkmen manager Anthony Barone said of the late home runs. "It was nice to get that added cushion."
The DockHounds then added two more runs in the eighth but Milwaukee then went to Peyton Gray in the ninth who went one-two-three to close the game 10-5 for the Milkmen.
Milwaukee now becomes the first team in the East Division to clinch a playoff spot as they now have nine games left in the regular season. They will play two more games in Oconomowoc before returning to Franklin Field to wrap up the season with a seven-game homestand. We hope to see you soon!
Tickets are on sale at MilwaukeeMilkmen.com or at the Franklin Field Box Office prior to the game.
