Mike Thomas Named Sea Dogs Captain for 2010-11 Season

SAINT JOHN, NB --- Saint John Sea Dogs Head Coach Gerard Gallant announced today that overage forward Mike Thomas will resume his team captaincy effective immediately. The 6'1", 204 lb. winger was released from the Training Camp Roster of the American Hockey League's Oklahoma City Barons yesterday and rejoined the Sea Dogs today.
Thomas was originally named Saint John's Captain on October 21, 2009 in the early stages of the team's historic 22-game winning streak. A native of New Maryland, NB, Thomas has registered 231GP-23G-36A-59P-398PIM for the Sea Dogs since being selected by the club in Round Four (56th Overall) of the 2006 QMJHL Entry Draft.
Coach Gallant has also announced that the Sea Dogs' alternate captains this year will be overage centre Michael Kirkpatrick, who has worn the 'C' in Thomas' absence, as well as veteran defensemen Kevin Gagné and Simon Després. Després, 19, was reassigned to the QMJHL by the Pittsburgh Penguins earlier this week after appearing in four pre-season games with the star-laden NHL team. The hulking blue-liner will make his 2010-11 debut later this evening.
Currently 5-2-0-1 on the season, Saint John will take on the Moncton Wildcats tonight (puck drop - 7:30pm) at Harbour Station in Game One of the Third Annual Brunswick News Rivalry Cup Challenge.
