Mike Hampton to rehab in Durham on Wednesday

Durham, NC - Just two days after baseball fans in the Triangle got to watch Tampa Bay Rays ace Scott Kazmir pitch a five-inning gem for the Bulls, another big league left-hander will lace up the cleats for a rehab assignment in the Bull City.
Atlanta Braves All-Star Mike Hampton, who hasn't pitched since 2005 due to a series of injuries, is scheduled to pitch for the Richmond Braves when they take on the Durham Bulls Wednesday morning at 11:05 AM at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
Hampton holds a career record of 138-101 with a 3.97 ERA in 13 seasons with the Seattle Mariners, Houston Astros, New York Mets, Colorado Rockies and Atlanta. He finished second in the Cy Young Award Balloting in 1999 when he finished the season 22-4 with a 2.90 ERA while with Houston and led the Mets to the World Series in 2000 when he went 15-10 with a 3.14 ERA.
Hampton missed the entire 2007 season after being placed on the disabled list on 3/30 (retroactive to 3/23) with a strained left oblique. While on the disabled list, it was discovered by Dr. Dave Altcheck during an examination in New York on 4/9 that he had a torn flexor tendon in his left elbow. Surgery was performed on 4/10 and he was transferred to the 60-day disabled list on 4/14. He made one start for Navojoa of the Mexican Winter League on 11/22 and fanned one and allowed a hit in 1.0 IP before leaving due to an injured right hamstring.
He missed the entire 2006 season while rehabilitating from "Tommy John" surgery, performed by Dr. Dave Altcheck in New York on Sept. 26, 2005.
