Indianapolis Indians News Release
INDIANAPOLIS -- Center fielder Ryan Langerhans went 2-for-3 with a double, homer, sacrifice fly, walk, three runs and five RBI to help Columbus post an 8-1 win over Indianapolis Tuesday evening at Victory Field.
The Clippers improve to 12-14 overall and 8-6 on the road, while the Indians fall to 13-13 on the season and 8-5 at home.
Langerhans sparked a three-run first with a two-run double to left. The base knock scored RF Tommy Murphy (2-for-5, 2 R), who opened the game with a double to right, and 2B Pete Orr (2-for-4, 3 R), who followed with a single to left.
Langerhans came plateward moments later when 3B Yurendell de Caster (2-for-5, 1 RBI) drilled a single to right. De Caster was facing his former team after playing in 361 games for Indianapolis from 2005-07.
Columbus took advantage of five bases on balls, a stolen base and a balk to plate two runs in the third. Orr and Langerhans, who led off the frame with back-to-back walks, both scored to make it 5-0.
The Clippers added insurance runs in the fourth, sixth and eighth.
Murphy whacked a triple and scored on a Langerhans groundout in the fourth. Orr clobbered a triple and scored on a Langerhans sacrifice fly in the sixth. Then, Langerhans capped off a five-RBI night with his second long ball of the campaign -- a solo shot to right -- in the eighth.
Langerhans, who has played in over 400 Major League contests with Atlanta and Washington, recorded season highs for both runs (3) and RBI in a game.
Clippers RHP Jason Bergmann (8.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 6 SO) improved to 1-2 with the win, while Indians RHP Jason Davis (2.1 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 5 BB, 1 SO) fell to 1-3 with the loss.
SS Josh Wilson went 2-for-4 and scored the Tribe's only run. Langerhans, Murphy, Orr and de Caster all notched multi-hit performances for Columbus.
Indianapolis CF Andrew McCutchen, who recorded a fifth-inning single, extended the International League's longest on-base streak to 21 games.
Indianapolis and Columbus wrap up the brief two-game series on Wednesday at 11 a.m. RHP Dennis Tankersley is scheduled to start for the Clippers, while RHP Ty Taubenheim is expected to get the nod for the Indians.
The contest will be carried by WXLW-950 AM and www.IndyIndians.com with Howard Kellman and Scott McCauley. The pre-game show begins at 10:40 a.m.
Wednesday's game will be the first of three Baseball in Education days at Victory Field. The Indianapolis Public Schools will hold a "BAD" (Be Against Drugs) rally on the field from 10-10:30 a.m. Lawn and reserved seats are only $4.50 each for school groups, while box seats are just $6.50 apiece.
The Indians would also like to congratulate eight-year-old Austin Harmon from Indianapolis, who was the 7,000,000th fan at Victory Field. Harmon, who threw out a ceremonial pitch on Tuesday night, received a FREE seven-game mini plan and Indians prize pack.

Post-game quotes -- LHP Sean Burnett
(how can the team bounce back from its four-game losing streak?) "We have a veteran club that has gone through streaks like this. Each year, you are going to have a couple of rough games in a row and times when you are down. But, with a veteran club like this, you have players who know what it takes to bounce back and turn a losing streak around."
(what do you attribute your recent success to?) "It feels good to be healthy after a few rough years with elbow problems. For me, it's never really been an issue of getting guys out. It's been more about being healthy. I feel like I can get anyone out when I'm healthy. I've been throwing a lot of strikes this year, and I'm happy with the way things have gone so far."
(on the transition from a starting pitcher to a reliever) "The biggest thing is bouncing back and making sure your arm is responding after every game. Good relievers are prepared for every game. We have another game against Columbus and then we head out for a long road trip. You just have to be ready to bounce back as a player and a team."
