Midnight Miracle: 'Dads Win in Eleventh on Seventh Walkoff

Hickory, NC - Bubba Thompson sent the 'Dads home winners Monday night with a walkoff single in the eleventh inning to defeat the Augusta GreenJackets 4-3.

The game began at 8:36pm, after over an hour and a half delay due to storms. The game lasted 3 hours and 36 minutes, with the walkoff hit by Thompson coming at 12:09am.

The Crawdads got on the board first, scoring a run in the bottom of the second inning. Yohel Pozo started things off in the second with a walk. Pozo advanced to second as Jacobs walked. Kole Enright singled to center and brought Pozo in to score and give the 'Dads a 1-0 lead.

The 'Dads added a run onto their lead with another run in the fourth. Huff struck out to lead off the inning but reached as the ball got by the GreenJackets catcher. Kole Enright grounded out but was able to advance Huff to third. Yonny Hernandez delivered the single that scored Huff.

Texas Rangers lefty Martin Perez pitched five shutout innings, striking out nine GreenJackets. He allowed two hits and walked none on 59 pitches in his first rehab start as he works his way back to the Texas rotation. Perez had been sidelined since late April with an arm injury.

Augusta took a 3-2 lead off Crawdads righty Alex Eubanks in the 8thinning.

The 'Dads tied the score in the bottom half of the inning as Sam Huff hit his team-leading ninth homerun.

The score remained tied as the game entered the eleventh inning and the clock ticked past midnight. Enright began the inning as the designated runner on second base and was advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Hernandez. Thompson delivered the winning hit as he singled to center and Enright dashed home to score and give the 'Dads a 4-3 victory.

The homestand will conclude tomorrow afternoon with a noon game as the 'Dads welcome local summer camps to the ballpark. Anyone who shows a business card at the box office can receive a free ticket to the game.
