San Antonio Missions News Release

Midland outslugged San Antonio 9-6 Saturday night at Wolff Stadium in a game that featured 31 combined hits.

Midland struck first Saturday, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the second against San Antonio starter Elliot Morris on a Renato Nunez sacrifice fly to center.

San Antonio countered in its half of the second against Midland right-hander Tim Atherton, plating a pair of runs courtesy of consecutive RBI singles by Luis Domoromo and newcomer Adolfo Reina.

Two innings later, the RockHounds tied the game at two when Jaycob Brugman laced an RBI single into center.

In the bottom of the fifth, San Antonio retook the lead against Atherton (4-3). The Missions quickly put two runners on in the frame courtesy of a Casey McElroy walk and a Hunter Renfroe single. After catcher Griff Erickson moved the runners into scoring position with a sac bunt, Duanel Jones broke the tie with a sacrifice fly to left. Taylor Lindsey made the score 4-2 when he followed with an RBI double to right.

Unfortunately for the Missions, the RockHounds had another rally in them, plating five runs in the top of the sixth against Morris and reliever Michael Dimock. All five of the runs in the inning were charged to Morris (2-6), who allowed a career-high 11 hits in his five and a third innings.

San Antonio wasted a golden chance to get back in the game in its half, settling for just one run after loading the bases with nobody out.

Midland got the run back and more in the top of the seventh, beginning when Matt Olson drilled Dimock's 2-2 pitch over the wall in center. Catcher Bruce Maxwell made it 9-5 when he followed Brugman's triple with a single into center.

Lindsey (3-for-5, two runs) capped scoring in the bottom of the seventh with a solo shot off reliever Ryan Doolittle. The second baseman finished a triple short of the cycle.

Tucker Healy and Seth Frankoff (2nd save) combined on the final six outs for Midland (35-33).

San Antonio (29-38) opens up a five-game series against first-half champ Corpus Christi (47-20) Sunday with a doubleheader beginning at 5:00 PM. Justin Hancock (6-2, 3.05) will take the ball in game one for the Missions, while the Hooks counter with fellow righty Mark Appel (4-1, 4.79). Game two will feature another matchup of righties as San Antonio's Aaron Northcraft (1-0, 2.33) faces Corpus Christi's Kyle Westwood (5-2, 4.17). The season's first half will end after Monday night's contest.
