Estero, FL - Justin Midgett will start at quarterback for the Florida Firecats on the road tonight against the South Georgia Wildcats. It marks the first time in 83 games that someone other than Chris Wallace will take the snaps under center. Wallace has started every game since the start of the 2005 season. He is out with a neck injury. The team is awaiting the results of an MRI. Midgett has seen action in two games under center this season and is 7 of 9 with 49 yards and a touchdown. He began the '07 season with the af2's Lubbock Renegades starting in three games before being traded to the Alabama Steeldogs. He finishing the year passing for 759 yards and ten touchdowns.

Midgett was set to return to the Firecats in 2008 before heading overseas to play in France for the Aix-en-Provence Argonautes of the Elite French League. Twice he was named player of the week and was named the Argonautes Offensive Player of the Year.

A Southwest Florida native, he was one of the nations most prized prep quarterbacks as a senior in 2002 when he threw for 2,489 yards and 21 touchdowns leading the Charlotte Fighting Tarpons to the Class 4A semifinals.

This week's contest against South Georgia will be the 19th game between the two franchises since 2002. The series is tied at nine games each. With a win the Firecats would not only achieve a major milestone but would also gain an important tiebreaker advantage over the Wildcats. South Georgia won two of the three previous match ups this season by a combined 16 points. Two weeks ago Florida defeated South Georgia by 17 at home.
