SUGAR LAND, Texas - The Sugar Land Skeeters lost a 6-3 decision to Lancaster at Clipper Magazine Stadium in front of 4,801 fans. The loss drops the Skeeters to 12-21 and 48-55 overall.
Skeeters starter Josh Geer escaped jams through the first four innings before his struggles finally caught up with him. After Sugar Land had staked an early lead in the top of the inning with a Johan Limonta leadoff triple, the Barnstormers put up a four spot to claim their first lead of the game. Yusuke Kajimoto singled to open up the inning and Zach Collier followed with a single into right. Kajimoto would come in to score on the play after a throwing error from right allowed him to cross the plate. Kent Matthes drew a walk before Mike McDade launched a three-run home run to move the score to 4-1.
The Skeeters would trim the deficit to 4-3 in the top of the sixth. Jeff Dominguez singled and stole second to move into scoring position before coming in to score on an RBI single by Travis Scott. Scott would advance up to third with a groundout to second off the bat of Delwyn Young and later scored on a groundout from Daryle Ward to pull the Skeeters within one.
Lancaster would respond in the bottom of the frame with a pair of runs of its own to regain a three-run lead. Brian Cavazos-Galvez and Lance Zawadzki each recorded back-to-back singles to start the inning before a double from Luke Hughes would score one and move Zawadzki to third. Collier lifted a sacrifice fly to right field to increase the Barnstormers lead to 6-3.
Reliever Andrew Johnston worked around three, two-out singles in the seventh to escape trouble and Ramon Delgado pitched his way out of a jam in the eighth despite giving up a single and a walk. The Skeeters offense never got back into a rhythm, however, dropping the 6-3 decision.
