Blue Crabs Drop Game One

(Central Islip, NY. August 13, 2015) ---Southern Maryland began a quick four game road trip, taking on the Long Island Ducks and losing 4-1 in game one.

The Blue Crabs fell down early, 2-0 in the bottom of the first. Fehlandt Lentini led things off with a single. Two batters later, Dan Lyons ripped a ground rule double over the left center field wall to make it 1-0. Newcomer Sean Burroughs roped a hit back up the middle to score Lyons to make it 2-0.

In the bottom of the fourth, after a Mike Blanke single, former Blue Crab Anthony Vega drove a homerun over the wall in right field to make it 4-0. Southern Maryland scratched out a run in the top of the ninth, but nothing significant came of it.

RHP John Brownell retired 13 straight hitters from the fourth to the eighth innings. John picked up the win going 8.2 innings, one run, four hits, and striking out eight. RHP Brian Baker suffered the loss, going seven innings, allowing four runs on eight hits. Southern Maryland was held to just four hits, while Dan Lyons went 2-4, and former Blue Crabs outfielder Anthony Vega went 2-3 with two RBIs.

The series moves on to game two tomorrow evening. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:35 P.M.
