
Blue Crabs Falter in Finale

Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release
(Waldorf, MD August 12th 2015) ---Bridgeport came into play tonight looking to keep pace with Somerset in the Liberty Division standings, and accomplished their goal as they defeated the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs by the final of 5-2.
Each team had ten hits apiece while Southern Maryland took the lead first in the game. In the bottom of the fifth, the Blue Crabs cracked the scoreboard. Keith Castillo reached base on an error by the first baseman Andres Rodriguez. Castillo then stole second to get into scoring position, and the next hitter Antone DeJesus doubled to left to score Castillo to make it 1-0.
Bridgeport provided an answer in the top of the sixth, as the ninth place hitter Ethan Chapman homered over the wall in right to tie the game at 1-1. Two batters later, Bryant Nelson homered over the wall in left off RHP Daryl Thompson to make it 2-1 Bridgeport. In the top of the eighth, Ethan Chapman once again started the rally with a single. Bryan Sabatella then dropped down a sacrifice bunt to put a runner in scoring position. Bryant Nelson then came back up to the plate, and reached on a single and an error by second baseman Jake Opitz, allowing Chapman to score to make it 3-1.
Southern Maryland cut the lead in half in the bottom of the frame. After Jake Opitz ripped a triple to right center field, Gustavo Molina doubled to score Opitz to make it 3-2.
In the top of the ninth with one out, Jobduan Morales doubled to put a runner in scoring position. Josh Prince then reached base on a strikeout and wild pitch. Prince attempted to steal second and Tyler Wagner threw one into the outfield to score Morales to make it 4-2. Andres Rodriguez then hit a sacrifice fly to score Josh Prince to bring the score to the final of 5-2.
Each team won two games in the series. RHP Erik Hamren meanwhile, pitched in his last professional game as he has now retired from professional baseball. LHP starter Robert Carson struck out 10 Blue Crabs hitters, picking up his fourth win of the season.
Southern Maryland will hit the road for a four game series against the Long Island Ducks. Game one of the series will commence tomorrow at 6:35 P.M.
