
Michigan Wins Tough Contest against Springfield, 3-2

The Michigan Warriors and the Springfield Jr. Blues were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Michigan made the most of its opportunities and won, 3-2.
Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Jake Hopfner's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.
The Warriors were led by Hopfner, who racked up one goal and one assist. Hopfner scored on the power play 2:43 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Michigan. A cross checking penalty on Nik Dotolo had put Michigan on the power play. TJ Stuntz provided the assist.
The Warriors forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and one major for 21 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 19.0 minutes per game Michigan had been spending in the box. The defense for the Warriors played an important role offensively, racking up 11 shots on goal.
Michigan also got points from Alec Pellegrino, who also had one goal and one assist. Cody Kuster also scored for Michigan.
By firing 31 shots on goal, Springfield exceeded the 24.3 shots it averages per game this year.
The Jr. Blues were helped by Kyle Shreve, who grabbed one goal. Shreve scored 15:21 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Brendan Jacques assisted on the tally. Springfield also got a goal from Max Kalter as well. More assists for Springfield came via Trevor Stone, Davis Dekorte, and Oliver Takacsi-Nagy, who each chipped in one.
Trevor Gorsuch recorded 29 saves for Michigan. The Warriors registered two goals on four power play opportunities. Sandro Aeschlimann made 21 saves for Springfield on 24 shots. The Jr. Blues totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play.
