Minot Vanquishes Brookings in Shootout, 3-2

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Minot Minotauros defeated the Brookings Blizzard in a shootout 3-2 (2-0 SO).

The two teams needed eight turns to complete the shootout. Minot's other shootout goal was scored by Troy Degler.

The Minotauros overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Minot trailed 2-0 after a power play goal by Brookings' Jared Goudreau at 3:26 in the third period. The Minotauros tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by Michael Bigelbach at 13:24 in the third period.

Minot put 34 shots on net during the contest, more than the 22.3 it averages per game.

Minot also got a goal from Cameron Rowat as well. Other players who recorded assists for Minot were Jake Johnson, Jake McCann, Scott Dornbrock, and Jacob Howie, who each chipped in one.

The Blizzard's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Minot power plays.

Brookings was helped by Eric Brenk, who grabbed one goal. Brenk scored 7:15 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Brookings. Nick DeCenzo picked up the assist. In addition, Brookings received assists from Conor Andrle, Evan Hesse, and Andrew Herlofsky, who contributed one a piece.

The Minotauros' Merrick Madsen stopped 21 shots out of the 23 that he faced. Minot incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Drew Weigman made 31 saves for the Blizzard on 33 shots. Brookings totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-2 on the power play.
