
Austin penalty kill dominates in 3-1 defeat of Kenai River

The Austin Bruins, which found themselves down a man often, weathered the Kenai River Brown Bears' power play opportunities and emerged with a 3-1 victory.
Austin was paced by Simon Petersson, who grabbed one goal. Petersson scored on the power play 17:07 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Austin. The Bruins had gained a power play chance when Zach Quinn was whistled for high sticking. Jay Dickman picked up the assist.
The Austin penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled nine minors and one major for 23 minutes in penalty time. The Bruins surpassed its season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game. Austin's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.
Austin also got a goal from Josh Bretner as well. In addition, Austin received assists from Brennan Sanford, who had one.
Kenai River racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. The Brown Bears had been averaging 19.0 minutes in penalties per game. Kenai River did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Brown Bears put an average of 3.1 pucks into the net per game.
Kenai River was led by Albin Karlsson, who scored the team's only goal. Karlsson scored on the power play 3:28 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Kenai River. The Brown Bears earned a power play opportunity when Trevor Boyd was put in the box for tripping. Alec Butcher assisted on the tally.
The Bruins' Nicholas Lehr stopped 22 shots out of the 23 that he faced. Austin registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Zach Quinn made 27 saves for Kenai River on 30 shots. The Brown Bears registered one goal on six power play opportunities.
