Hamilton Bulldogs News Release

ALBANY, NY -- Goaltender Olivier Michaud earned his second consecutive shutout, as he made 23 saves, leading the Hamilton Bulldogs to a 5-0 win over the Albany River Rats at the Pepsi Arena on Saturday night. Michaud becomes the first Bulldogs goaltender to record back-to-back shutouts since Eric Fichaud accomplished the feat during the 2002-03 season (Mar. 2/03 vs. Manitoba 1-0, Mar. 8/03 vs. Rochester 3-0)

The Bulldogs defence led the way offensively for the Bulldogs on Saturday in Albany, as they combined to score four goals. Hamilton's Patrick Traverse scored a pair of second period goals, his first multi-goal game of the season for the Bulldogs.

Rookie defenceman Jean-Philippe Cote scored his first AHL goal at the 14:17 mark of the second period.

Also scoring his first goal of the season was blue-liner Philippe Plante. The veteran defenceman earned his first marker at 3:24 of the third period.

Bulldogs forward Eero Somervuori scored Hamilton's other goal, which was his sixth of the season.

Centre Tomas Plekanec contributed with two assists in his first game back with the Bulldogs since being reassigned by the Montreal Canadiens to Hamilton.

The shutout victory was the Bulldogs fifth of the season. Hamilton leads the AHL's North Division with 53 points on a record of 23 wins, 14 losses, 5 ties and 2 overtime losses.

The Bulldogs will next play on Friday, January 23rd when they travel to Cincinnati to take on the Mighty Ducks. Bulldogs fans can listen to Derek Wills call all the action, beginning with the pre-game show at 7:25 p.m. on 820 CHAM-AM and on-line at www.hamiltonbulldogs.com.

The Hamilton Bulldogs next home action will take place on Wednesday, February 4th at 7:00 p.m. as the Bulldogs host the Rochester Americans at Copps Coliseum.
