Miami FC Hosts FC Tulsa in a Pivotal Matchup for Both Sides
August 9, 2022 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Miami FC News Release
Miami, Fla. - The Miami Football Club enters Week 23 of the 2022 USL Championship season in good form to take on FC Tulsa. The match is set to kick off at 7:06 p.m. ET on Wednesday.
In a must-win game for both sides, Miami FC and FC Tulsa go toe-to-toe for a second time this year. Head coach Anthony Pulis aims for a home victory that would create a 12-point gap between MFC and Tulsa in the Eastern Conference table. Meanwhile, Interim head coach Donovan Ricketts hopes to defeat and close in on Miami in the dying embers of the regular season.
The Orange and Blue return to Miami after back-to-back away matches, boasting a 3-1-1 record in its previous five matches. On the other hand, the Roughnecks arrive at South Florida holding a 2-1-2 record.
Back home after a 3-0 away triumph vs. New Mexico United
Miami FC took down Western Conference foe New Mexico United 3-0 in Albuquerque, NM., over the weekend.
The fixture kicked off at 9:21 p.m. ET instead of its intended start time at 9 p.m. due to lightning in the area. With no surprise, an uneventful first 30 minutes of the game followed the delay.
After a couple of chances in the closing 15 minutes of the first half, Murphy finished a cross sent by Rivas in stoppage time to pull Miami ahead. The goal was Murphy's fourth of the season, and the assist was Rivas' first wearing Orange and Blue.
The American striker doubled Miami's lead inside the first five minutes of the second half. Moreover, the 29-year-old notched his 50th USL Championship goal. On the other hand, Valot dished out his sixth assist of the year.
Forward Romeo Parkes was subbed on in the 77th minute and scored against his former club two minutes after. The goal was a gift from the Black and Yellow and Parkes' fifth of the season.
The scoreline (3-0) marked New Mexico United's biggest home loss ever and Miami FC's second time scoring more than two goals in a game this season.
Murphy was named in the USL Championship's Week 22 Team of the Week.
Last time out vs. FC Tulsa
Miami FC and FC Tulsa faced one another out for the first time ever on June 4 at Oneok Field. The meeting ended in a goalless-all draw. Goalkeepers Connor Sparrow and Tulsa's Austin Wormell earned clean sheets on the night.
Former Roughnecks in Miami
Former FC Tulsa center-back Callum Chapman-Page and winger Joaquín Rivas are set to face their old club on Wednesday.
Rivas is fresh off his stint with the Roughnecks, arriving at Miami FC in June in exchange for right-back Sean McFarlane. The Salvadoran and Jamaican are set to face off in Miami's left flank.
Chapman-Page played his first USL Championship regular season game of the year against FC Tulsa. The English man played 20 minutes off the bench after healing from leg injuries.
